There are four ways of reducing or eliminating exposure to electromagnetic fields:

Working Safely with Wireless Technology

providing solutions for safer technology Safety in the Home Banner with EM wave pic Category	Action	Explanation Category 1 Switch off all devices. This is the safest category. Any device that is switched off is not transmitting and therefore the safest. This is not necessarily the most practical, but basically when you are not using your devices like mobile phones, WIFI router or tablet - switch it off. Category 2 Add distance between yourself and the transmitting device. Field strength drops off rapidly with increased distance. For every one unit of distance you add, field strength drops off twice as much. Category 3 Install shielding products which either absorb and neutralise the EM field, or bounce (reflect) it away. Shielding products like RF blocking paint or RF blocking window film or curtains reduce EM penetration by up to 98 percent. At Home •	Use wired Internet connections instead of, or as alternatives, to wireless transmitters. If you must use a wireless router, only switch it on when you need Internet access, switch it off afterwards. Locate it far away from where anyone sits or sleeps. There are devices on the market which allow you to send internet data over your electrical circuit using what are called pass through connectors. •	The worse place to put a laptop is on your lap. When a device is actively transmitting wirelessly, use distance to minimise exposure. •	For iPads, use a thick cover for the device. This adds millimetres of distance between your body and the chassis of the device, plus protects it from drop impacts. •	Replace wireless home telephones with new ones that have an Eco Plus mode (these stay in cold listening mode and only wake up when a call is received, instead of broadcasting full strength 24x7). •	Ensure that all electronic devices are kept away from a child's bed (at least 3 metres distance). This includes wireless baby monitors. •	Ensure that childrens' rooms are electronically cold (free from magnetic or electric fields) as much as possible. Switch off all electronic appliances at the wall socket in their rooms at bedtime. •	Keep all devices in Flight mode with WIFI off (Airplane sign = safe, zero radiation) overnight, next to the bed, during a sleep cycle. This is espcially important if you charge your phone overnight next to your bed. Mobile Phones •	If you need to receive or make calls and cannot remain in Flight mode, only switch on Wireless when you need to access Internet services. •	Never keep a mobile phone near a baby, near a pregnant woman's belly, or in a handbag on a pram. •	Use speaker mode or a wired headset (preferably an air tube headset) when talking on a mobile phone so as to avoid putting the phone to your head. •	Carry the device further away from your body when not in Flight mode. •	Texting is much better than talking. •	Avoid using smartphones when the signal strength is low (it automatically increases to full power transmission to contact the cell tower), inside a vehicle or a train carriage (pulsed waves are reflected internally). •	Only let children use mobiles for emergencies or when they need to be contactable while away from home.
